A small neighborhood-friendly shuttle bus will pick-up riders and drop them off wherever they wish to travel within the service boundaries. Along the way, the shuttle may pick-up other passengers who also\u00a0request a ride. The service conveniently accommodates people with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW IT WORKS<\/strong><br \/>\nThe new pilot program will be implemented in partnership with <span style=\"color: #0070b6;\">SEAT<\/span> and TransLoc, a Ford Smart Mobility Company. To use this new ride share program, passengers first download the free TransLoc app to their smartphone and then request a ride. Following a <span style=\"color: #0070b6;\">HOP<\/span> request, the Microtransit app will provide passengers with an estimated pick-up time, track their bus in real-time, and alert them when their ride is about to arrive. Passengers will also be notified when their ride is about to reach their desired destination.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0070b6;\">HOP<\/span> customers will also be able to request same-day rides by calling <span style=\"color: #0070b6;\">860-886-2631<\/span> or by going online to <span style=\"color: #0070b6;\">ondemand.transloc.com<\/span>. Wait times for service are subject to vehicle availability and demand.<\/p>\n<p><strong>COSTS &amp; PROGRAM DATES<\/strong><br \/>\nThe cost to ride is only <span style=\"color: #0070b6;\">$2.00<\/span> per trip,<span style=\"color: #0070b6;\"> $1.00<\/span> for those eligible for discount fare (seniors, and persons with disabilities); or, riders can use their <span style=\"color: #0070b6;\">SEAT<\/span> passes. The low- cost makes <span style=\"color: #0070b6;\">SEAT&#8217;s HOP<\/span> more affordable than a traditional ride-hailing service, which could cost riders more than five times the amount for a similar trip.<\/p>\n<p>This pilot program will operate within Stonington and will run <span style=\"color: #0070b6;\">February 3, 2020 through June 30, 2020<\/span>. If the program goes well, the service <span style=\"color: #0070b6;\">will expand and become a part of SEAT&#8217;s regular service in Stonington<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>SEAT is excited about the new HOP service, and hopes it will provide a more robust and customer-friendly service than the old Route 10 for our Stonington customers.<\/p>\n<p>As American cities grapple with surges in growth and shifting demographics, municipal transit agencies are rethinking how to address greater accessibility and mobility within their metropolitan areas by implementing agency-owned microtransit. This past year has seen a surge in adoption of a new class of flexible on-demand services. These new microtransit services are intended to complement existing fixed route bus, light rail and train services and amend gaps within transit regions.
