SEAT Launches Innovative On-Demand Ride Share Service Passengers Can Hail Customized Trip Through Smartphone App (Demo)

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Preston, CT., January 13, 2020 — SEAT is excited to announce the launch of SEAT HOP, a flexible and dynamic on-demand microtransit shuttle service in Stonington, CT.

Similar to ride-hailing services, HOP uses a smartphone app for riders to schedule customized curb-to-curb microtransit trips. A small neighborhood-friendly shuttle bus will pick-up riders and drop them off wherever they wish to travel within the service boundaries. Along the way, the shuttle may pick-up other passengers who also request a ride. The service conveniently accommodates people with disabilities.

HOW IT WORKS
The new pilot program will be implemented in partnership with SEAT and TransLoc, a Ford Smart Mobility Company. To use this new ride share program, passengers first download the free TransLoc app to their smartphone and then request a ride. Following a HOP request, the Microtransit app will provide passengers with an estimated pick-up time, track their bus in real-time, and alert them when their ride is about to arrive. Passengers will also be notified when their ride is about to reach their desired destination.

HOP customers will also be able to request same-day rides by calling 860-886-2631 or by going online to ondemand.transloc.com. Wait times for service are subject to vehicle availability and demand.

COSTS & PROGRAM DATES
The cost to ride is only $2.00 per trip, $1.00 for those eligible for discount fare (seniors, and persons with disabilities); or, riders can use their SEAT passes. The low- cost makes SEAT’s HOP more affordable than a traditional ride-hailing service, which could cost riders more than five times the amount for a similar trip.

This pilot program will operate within Stonington and will run February 3, 2020 through June 30, 2020. If the program goes well, the service will expand and become a part of SEAT’s regular service in Stonington.

SEAT is excited about the new HOP service, and hopes it will provide a more robust and customer-friendly service than the old Route 10 for our Stonington customers.

As American cities grapple with surges in growth and shifting demographics, municipal transit agencies are rethinking how to address greater accessibility and mobility within their metropolitan areas by implementing agency-owned microtransit. This past year has seen a surge in adoption of a new class of flexible on-demand services. These new microtransit services are intended to complement existing fixed route bus, light rail and train services and amend gaps within transit regions. TransLoc has become the largest provider of microtransit solutions to transit agencies in the U.S., with its technology solutions adopted in over 60 cities from coast to coast.

I don’t understand why this state can’t just make my town (mystic\stonington) have a normal bus service like all the other towns around us. All they care about are tourists. But guess what maybe if we had regular public transportation, the tourists could stay at hotels in other towns and still be able to come to mystic to spend they’re money on food and over priced ice cream.
Forget about the people who live and work and go to school here… This town is useless to people like me there are no opportunities for jobs education or recreation. And the police just drive around following us locals waiting for a twilight to go out or the slightest reason to pull us over and justify their over inflated budget which should be used for any number of public services that this town is actually in NEED of. Not on an already over inflated police department budget who statistically have more police officers per Capita than any other town in CT.
I got one, cannot wait get a new job in Groton or New London and move to one of those 2 towns where I could actually make a living, and be able to just take the bus to work instead of having to own a car and drive 20 minutes to the nearest bus stoo, only to spend the next 2 hours transferring only to travel a few miles. And forget about coming home. If you live in Stonington you can’t even catch a bus home after the early afternoon. It’s ridiculous. Do it right or don’t do it at all Connecticut. YOU have all the power to help your constituents and the greater good. ACT LIKE IT! These useless gestures such as this sorry excuse for public transportation are not only a waste of public resources but a slap in the face to us who actually (try) to live here.

Patrick: SEAT would very much like to expand its range of services. SEAT, like all transit operators in the State of CT, depends upon State funding. Your comments/concerns are best addressed to the elected officials who determine transportation funding.
